Steve Yockey

Steve Yockey is a Los Angeles based writer with work produced throughout the country, in Europe and Asia. Afterlife, Octopus, Large Animal Games, CARTOONSubculture, Very Still & Hard to See, The Fisherman’s Wife, and Wolves are published and available from Samuel French. Last season, Pluto opened in a National New Play Network rolling world premiere at Actor’s Express (Atlanta), Know Theatre (Cincinnati), Forum Theatre (Washington D.C.), and Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando). The Thrush & The Woodpecker also premiered in the 2014 SOURCE Festival in Washington, DC. Steve is a Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Georgia and holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (2008). He was one of two writers selected for the first US/Australia playwright exchange in February 2013, sponsored by NNPN and Playwriting Australia, and is the recipient of the 2013 LA Weekly Playwriting Award for his ghost story Very Still & Hard to See. Steve previously wrote on MTV’s Awkward and is currently adapting Zenescope’s Monster Hunters’ Survival Guide for Relativity Television and executive producing the new dark comedy Self-Promotion, also for MTV.

The nerves about future productions depending entirely on the success of this first one are wiped away. It just pushes all of the anxious noise into the background. A lot of times the idea of taking chances has much more to do with design choices and how things are realized that might seem tiny to other folks, but can really influence the storytelling.
