Latinx Theatre Commons Tenth Anniversary Convening

Produced With
Thursday 14 March to Saturday 16 March 2024

About the Convening

October 2023 marked ten years since the Latinx Theatre Commons (LTC)’s first national convening in 2013. To celebrate this anniversary, we held a Tenth Anniversary Convening. We brought together the people who have made and continue to make the LTC what it is.

The LTC Tenth Anniversary Convening was a celebration of the last ten years, a reflection on our learnings and successes thus far, and an opportunity to discuss the future of the LTC and have field-wide discussions.

This convening sought to bring together the current LTC Steering and Advisory Committee and Latinx theatremakers and allies as we returned to the location of the first LTC Convening, ten years later.

Livestream Schedule

Opening Ceremonies

Thursday 14 March 2024 at 3:25 p.m. EDT (Boston, UTC -4)

We were welcomed by remarks from ArtsEmerson's Director of Artistic Programming Ronee Penoi and Emerson President Jay Bernhardt.

LTC Producer Jacqueline Flores and Convening Champion Abigail Vega welcomed conveners and set intentions for the weekend. We then heard from 2013 facilitators Olga Sanchez Saltveit and Clyde Valentin about what they've observed over the last decade.

Boston local playwright Melinda Lopez, who attended the 2013 convening, shared more on the importance of Latine theatre in the city. And Roxanne Schroeder-Arce led us through an exercise of mapping out the various identities that fill the room.

We also heard from one of the original co-conspirators of the LTC, Anne Garcia-Romero, and the person whose act of generosity created this movement, Karen Zacarías.
