The Blue Room Theatre presented the Winter Nights keynote lecture ‘On Theatre’ by Shelagh Magadza livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network on Tuesday 23 July 2019 at 6:30 a.m. EDT (New York, UTC -4) / 10:30 UTC+0 / 6:30 p.m. AWST (Perth, UTC +8).
The Blue Room Theatre presents its inaugural lecture ‘On Theatre’ on the opening night of Winter Nights 2019, a festival of theatre experimentation and ideas. In this lecture, Shelagh Magadza, the former Artistic Director of Perth International Arts Festival, explores theatre as a ritual essential to our humanity; a timely reminder of the unique power and urgency of our artform in a world dividing against itself. Speaking from Perth, Australia, Shelagh will unpack the ritual of Telling Stories on lands where the Noongar First Nations people have practiced culture for tens of thousands of years. She will explore the Spaces and Places of theatre making from the most remote capital city in the world, home to a prolific and idiosyncratic theatre culture.
The Blue Room Theatre is the home of contemporary independent theatre in Western Australia.
