Introducing Alison Yueming Qu, Associate Producer!

We’re happy to announce the newest addition to the HowlRound team, Boston local Alison Yuemung Qu! Alison joins us 1 August 2022 as our new associate producer. They will work closely with the creative producer to support the HowlRound Journal, the National Playwright Residency Program (NPRP), the HowlRound podcast platform, and convenings. Starting today, she will work closely with current associate producer Deen Rawlins-Harris until Deen’s departure in mid-August.

A 1.5-generation immigrant originally from Jilin City, China, Alison Yueming Qu (she/they) is a director, dramaturg, actor, and creative engagement producer. Alison curates joyful and radical Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) spaces toward a collective queer future.

Alison came to this country alone at the age of fourteen with the dream of becoming a country music superstar. That didn't quite happen, but the energy carried on. Alison is co-founder and executive director the first Mandarin bilingual, bicultural 501(c)3 theatre collective nationwide, CHUANG Stage, which is based in Boston, Massachusetts and produces programs for both local and global audiences. CHUANG Stage’s sister community, CHUANG Lab@Emerson, is a Mandarin theatre troupe at Emerson College growing the next generation of socially aware international artists.

Alison graduated from Emerson College with a BFA in Theatre (Directing and Dramaturgy) and was the inaugural Cutler Creative Producing & Engagement Fellow at ArtsEmerson. Alison was previously the connectivity producer at Company One Theatre and the associate producer of the Boston Chinatown Musical project by Kit Yan & Melissa Li.

International producing credits include the B·O·N·D International Virtual Performance Festival: Global Chinese Voices and the audio immersive piece Imaginarium at Applecart Art and Georgetown Festival, curated with the help of the German-French Cultural Fund in Wuhan, China. They assistant produced Season II of the Artists’ Connectivity Series at Ping Pong Arts, an open dialogue series between art and community makers of the world. As a freelance artist, Alison has worked with Central Square Theater, Fresh Ink Theatre, Company One Theatre, The Tank, Pao Arts Center, Reground Theatre Collective, Asian American Theatre Artists of Boston, Asian American Playwrights Collective, MIT Music and Theater Arts, TC Squared Theatre Company, and more. Alison is two-time recipient of the 2021 TBF Live Arts Boston grant, a National Arts Strategies New England Creative Community Fellow, and a steering committee member of API Arts Network. She is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
